A New Partnership for Eye Health

Malar Trust has started a wonderful collaboration with an association in Mallapuram and a specialized hospital in Chennai to offer free eye check-ups and surgeries — with transportation and follow-up visits included.

After confirming that both the association and the hospital were reliable, we began with a first group of four elderly patients — three women and one man — for cataract surgery. One of the women had already lost her sight completely.

We accompanied the patients to their preliminary visit, covering the cost of the required medical tests ourselves.

The four surgeries went extremely well, and the follow-up visits confirmed that everything is progressing smoothly. The woman who had lost her sight can see again, and she still can’t believe it.

After this success, we organized a second group: a man with an eye injury caused by a thorn and a woman with long-standing vision problems.

Both underwent specific tests at the hospital — also free of charge — while Malar covered only the transportation and meal expenses (about 30 euros). We are now waiting for the hospital’s diagnoses to decide how to proceed.

In short, Malar has launched a serious, accessible, and sustainable partnership for eye health. We hope it will become a regular initiative, especially for elderly people affected by cataracts.
