Shanthi’s Story: Finding Dignity and Hope.

Shanthi is a 42-year-old woman living with the long-term effects of polio. She lost the use of her legs when she was just four years old. Never married and with no family to care for her, Shanthi has faced life’s challenges alone with remarkable strength.

Until a few years ago, she lived with her mother. But following a serious misunderstanding, Shanthi was forced to leave home. With nowhere else to go, she took shelter in a cattle shed, where she lived for nearly a year, surviving on a disability pension of just ₹1,000 per month.

Last year, Malar Trust began providing Shanthi with a monthly allowance of ₹1,700. With this modest support, she was finally able to move into a small cement house—still without a bathroom, but a significant improvement from the shed.

Last month, Shanthi approached us again with a simple yet urgent request: a gas stove. Until now, she had been cooking with firewood, which is not only costly and hard to obtain but also physically demanding for someone in her condition.

Thanks to the continued support of our donors, we could fulfil her request—because even small changes can make a big difference in the life of someone like Shanthi.

Every rupee counts. Every act of kindness matters.
