Last Saturday we had a meaningful meeting with parents and students in Puliyur. Gatherings like this are very important for our work because they allow us to listen, share experiences, and strengthen the relationship between families, students, and the Malar Trust community.
During the meeting we introduced Murugan to the people. Murugan is one of our scholarship students and he also comes from the Tribal community. His story is an inspiring example for many young people in the villages where we work.
After the introduction, Murugan spoke directly with the parents and children. He shared his personal experiences from when he was young and the difficulties he faced growing up.
He explained that when he was a child, many of his friends would call him to go and play. But inside his mind he was thinking differently: he knew he needed to go to school and continue studying if he wanted to grow and build a better future.
At that time he also worked on road construction. He told the families that many workers were treated very cheaply and without respect. These experiences made him realize even more how important education is.
Murugan also shared that when he was in school, some classmates treated him poorly because of his background. Those moments were difficult, but instead of giving up he made a promise to himself: one day he would reach a good level in life.
Today he is proud of what he has achieved. He told the parents and students that he now has a stable life, a family, a car, and a motorbike. These are not only symbols of success, but signs of the dignity and independence that education can help create.
The most important part of his message was directed to the children. Murugan encouraged them to continue studying, to stay focused on their goals, and not to lose hope even when life is difficult.
The families listened carefully, and many people seemed to understand the meaning of his story. For us, it was a very positive moment. Sometimes we are not sure how these messages will be received, especially in Tribal communities where opportunities have historically been limited. But meetings like this help build trust and open new possibilities for the younger generation.
We left Puliyur feeling encouraged and grateful for the opportunity to share this moment together with the community.
