Malar helped 11 families in the tribal village of Masima Nagar gain access to electricity in their homes.
We learned that if at least ten families applied for a connection to the electricity grid, the Government was willing to waive all administrative installation fees. However, the costs of materials and labor would still have to be borne by the families themselves, for whom this represented a difficult expense.
Malar Trust therefore stepped in by providing support with the administrative procedures and covering the cost of labor, asking the families to contribute by paying for the materials. Eleven families accepted this proposal. Malar then submitted the applications for connection to the electricity network, and the work was completed.
Today, all the families involved have electricity in their homes. The total cost for Malar was approximately €3,000 (€250 per family), including full support for a family of elderly people living in conditions of extreme poverty, for whom both materials and labor were fully covered.
This achievement was made possible thanks to the generosity of many Italian friends: some contributed through donations in Italy, while others visited India as part of a trip organized by the Associazione Soste (www.soste.org). After learning about Malar’s activities and visiting the village of Masima Nagar, their contributions helped complete the amount needed.
