Extending a Helping Hand for a Dignified Life

In the peaceful village of Thondamanallur in Kanchipuram district lives 39-year-old Venkatesan. Six years ago, his life changed tragically. Before the accident, he worked hard every day as a daily-wage labourer and supported his family, including his mother.

One day, while returning home from work, he met with a severe road accident. The spinal injury he sustained left the lower part of his body paralyzed. Since then, he has not been able to walk or work.

After the accident, his father lovingly took care of him. But two years ago, he passed away. Now Venkatesan lives with his elderly mother Kasthuri. Despite her age, she continues to take part in the government’s 100-day rural employment scheme and earns a small income. Venkatesan is unmarried and has no children. He relies solely on his mother’s income and occasional support.

He receives a government disability pension of ₹1,500. Most of that amount is spent on food and medicine. However, this small sum is not enough to meet even his basic needs and medical expenses.

A year ago, he requested a comfortable bed because his condition made it difficult for him to sit or lie down properly. A kind donor from Chennai donated a bed through Malar Trust India, and it was delivered to Venkatesan. Additionally, Malar Trust India decided to regularly provide groceries from time to time to support the basic needs of Venkatesan and his mother with dignity.

Venkatesan has now been included in our “Individual Support Plan.” Through this plan, instead of monthly grocery donations, he receives a monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000.

This story stands as a beautiful example of how even a small act of kindness can bring a significant change in someone’s life. Malar Trust India remains committed to supporting courageous individuals like Venkatesan who continue to face life’s challenges with strength.
