A solar light was donated to 48 families belonging to some of the tribal villages where Malar Trust India operates.
The program was run in collaboration with the neighbor Indian NGO Asscod (www.asscod.org) – based in Chengalpattu district, Maduranthagam taluk – that got access to CSR scheme of Schneider Electric India (www.se.com).
By chance, was Asscod to get in contact with MTI because of our good reputation in working with tribal communities for so many years.
After Asscod asked to have a list of tribal families with no electricity at home, MTI made a survey in all the tribal villages where it operates and provided a list of about 150 families. The 48 were selected among the 150 in the villages of Poonjeri, Peryar Nagar and Puliyur.
The distribution was organized and run by MTI and the project worth 1,90,000 rupees (5.000rs per lamp)
After the distribution, Malar interviewed some of the families, to understand their feeling. They are all very happy and feel much safer now at night.
Following here some of the comments:
- Without light they could not cook in the night time and used to cook very early in the evening. Now they can use solar lamps for cooking also at night.
- The light is very useful for studying at night.
- The lamps are very powerful, easy to use, and make it possible to recharge mobiles and other devices too.
- One family found a snake hole in their house. There were many baby snakes in the hole. Now they could find the holes with the help of the solar light.
- When they go to rest room at night, they can take solar light in their hand.
All people heartily thanks Asscod and Malar Trust India for the great help.
