Bharathi, a 38-year-old woman affected by polio since childhood, lives with her disabled mother and struggles to survive. With support from Malar Trust India, she has started a small roadside business that helps her to survive.
Bharathi, 38, from Avaloor in Kancheepuram district, has lived with polio since infancy, leaving her unable to walk. She lost her father at age two and now lives with her 60-year-old disabled mother, Nagammal. With no siblings, they have faced life’s challenges together, supporting each other every day.
Despite these hardships, Bharathi completed her 12th standard while staying in a hostel. At home, they survive on a small disability pension and pay 500 rupees in rent, which is insufficient for food and medical needs, making daily life a constant struggle.
Since November 2022, Malar Trust India has provided 2000 rupees per month, helping Bharathi start a small roadside business. Though modest, this support helps to cover essential needs and offers hope for her future, but she still needs ongoing assistance to live with dignity.
