Ferose, 42, has lived with a severe disability since childhood after being affected by polio and now also faces serious heart problems requiring constant care. Unable to work regularly, he lives with his elderly parents, who struggle to meet basic expenses.
Ferose S/O Kasim, a 42-year-old man from Kancheepuram District, lives with his parents in a rented house in Kanniyappan Nagar, Kancheepuram District. Affected by polio at the age of one, he lives with a permanent physical disability and later developed additional health complications, including heart problems that require continuous medical care and lifelong medication. Because of his condition, Ferose cannot engage in regular employment. His father, Kasim (65), works occasionally in a mat shop, earning about Rs. 500 per day when his health permits, but he can no longer work consistently due to age. His mother, Mumala (58), also suffers from health issues and cannot contribute financially. The family faces heavy monthly expenses, including Rs. 5,000 for rent, Rs. 500 for electricity, and around Rs. 3,000 for Ferose’s medicines, creating serious financial pressure.
Ferose has needed frequent hospital visits throughout his life, and during emergencies the family has had to hire tuk-tuks for transportation, further straining their limited resources. Despite these challenges, he remains determined to stay active and independent. During our visit, Malar Trust provided him with a computer so he can do typing and data-entry work from home, allowing him to earn a small income. This support offers both immediate financial relief and long-term empowerment through a tool that encourages self-reliance. Recognizing the family’s fragile situation, we also decided to support Ferose with a monthly contribution of Rs. 2,000 to help cover essential needs such as food, medicines, and daily expenses, giving him greater stability, dignity, and renewed hope for the future.
